The Zoo was built on the sites of ancient gardens. Zoo mainly exhibits wild and rare animals of China.

Yanqi Lake is a beautiful water spot at the foot of Yanshan Mountain. The Great Wall is to the north of the Lake, Yanqi Lake in Chinese means: Swans dwell on lake
Great place for... hiking. About a 1.5 hour bus ride from the city! Two or more sections nearer the city have been restored and are available for tourists to walk upon.

One section even has a ski lift up and a toboggan (or ski lift) down. You may want to bring a jacket against the wind or cold in the chillier season - in the summer you will need lots of water, and it will be cheaper if you bring your own rather than rely on the vendors on the Wall.

Badaling section is the most famous, but also the most over-restored and crowded.

Altogether there are more than 30 large halls. The Beijing Ocean Hall was opened to the public inside the Zoo in 1999. It is the biggest ocean hall in China. Besides enjoying the sight of all the different species of fish, guests are invited to watch the shows performed by the dolphins and the sea lions.

In addition, visitors can explore many old buildings built in the Qing Dynasty inside the Beijing Zoo. Initially named The Ten Thousand Animal Garden, the zoo was built in 1908,

The Beijing Zoo now houses over 7,000 creatures of 600 different species from all over the world, containing specimens of over 100 species of reptiles from all over the world, including crocodiles and pythons.
The main water sports include sea-parachute jumping, motorboat, aquatic racing bike, forge head against a swift current, sciping down to lake, float bridge, speed boats, float natatorium, delighting tide, speed boats driven by oneself, guest boats, dragon boats, gaily-painted pleasure boat, hand boats, feet boats, space craft and so on.

Parachuting over the lake and driving aquatic motorcycle are items well received by visitors, and tourists can have a great time. There are about 30 restaurants of different classes for the tourists to choose from.

The aquarium is one of the biggest in the world, and very impressive.

Nine-Dragon Amusement Park
Jinshanling, Huangshan and Simatai are more distant (several hours drive) but offer a better view of the wall in a less restored state with fewer crowds. Mutianyu has been restored, but far less crowded than Badaling.

Crowds are a definite issue with the Great Wall: at popular sections at popular times, it becomes not the Great Wall of China, but rather the Great Wall of Tourists.
