Great Hall Of The People
(Rénmín Dàhùitáng)
Extensive gardens and the ruins of palaces constructed by the Qing emperors. Most visitors stay in the front hill area, but if you prefer quiet places, the west bank and back hill areas are good choices.

There are some quiet and secret ruins, caves, and other fun stuff in the back hill area. In December 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage List

The Great Hall of the People is located at the western edge of Tiananmen Square, Beijing, Republic of China, and is used for legislative and ceremonial activities by the People's Republic of China and the Communist Party of China. It is the parliament building in China.

Great Hall of the People was built in September 1959, which was one of the "Ten Great Constructions" completed for the 10th Anniversary of the People's Republic.

The central part is higher, with the highest part in 46.5 meters, while the two sides are little lower. At the eaves of the main gate, there hangs the national emblem of People's Republic of China.
Truly the spot to appreciate the might and grandeur of the Imperial Chinese court during the height of its power in the Ming and Qing dynasties.

Despite the transformation of the city around it, the Forbidden City remains mercifully relatively untouched. Only 2/5 area of the palace is opened, but some places are under restorations and will be opened before 2008.

There is a flag raising and lowering ceremony at dawn and dusk. There are 4 marble lions in front of the Tiananmen

South east of Qianmen and the Tiananmen Square. Not only a beautiful sight, but also surrounded by a vast public park popular with local residents practicing tai chi, dancing, and so on in the mornings and on weekends.
The Lama Temple, or Yonghe Gong in Chinese, is the largest Tibetan Buddhist Lama Temple in Beijing and one of the largest and most important Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the world. It was built in the 33rd year of Kangxi Reign in the Qing Dynasty (1694) as the mansion for Emperor Yongzheng when he was a prince.

In the third year of the third Qing Emperor Yongzheng Reign (1725), it was made an imperial palace for short stays, In each hall of the temple, there are enshrined many Buddhist statues, Tangka and rare cultural relics.

Tian An Men (Gate of Heavenly Peace) was the main entrance to the Forbidden City during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Built in 1417, it was first named the Cheng Tian Men, meaning that emperors obeyed the order of Heaven in ruling the country.

With an area of 440, 000 square meters, it is spacious enough to accommodate half a million people. Many annual and special celebrations and assemblies are held here.

On October 1st, 1949, Chairman Mao Ze Dong declared the founding of the People's Republic of China on the Tian An Men Rostrum. Tian An Men, with its long history and rich culture, attracts people from all over the world.
Can be reached by buses 2, 7, 17, 20, 110, 120, 726, 803, 826 to the West Gate (Tiantán Ximén); or buses 35 and 106 to the North Gate (Tiantán Beimén). Park and historical sights (like the temple) ¥35, park only ¥15.

Home to many ancient trees, this is also the greenest place in Beijing. Just a short stroll away from the historical sights will bring you to peaceful woods and, amazingly, solitude (especially toward the West Gate).
Largest square in the world, be sure not to miss it. Nearby the Forbidden City, the square is surrounded by Soviet-style monuments and government buildings, and houses Mao's mausoleum at the end opposite the entrance to the Forbidden City.
