LONDON, Oct 4 (Reuters) - Michael Carrick will be out of action for up to six weeks after fracturing his right elbow in the latter stages of Manchester United's Champions League match with AS Roma, the club confirmed on Thursday.
The injury means the 26-year-old midfielder will miss England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia later this month and probably England's friendly against Austria on Nov.17.
He is also doubtful for England's final Euro 2088 qualifier against Croatia on Nov. 21.
Carrick injury another blow for England & Utd
A statement on Manchester United's Web site (www.manutd.com) said that although he played the full 90 minutes of the game against Roma on Tuesday, X-rays revealed the break afterwards.
As well as missing the England matches, he is unlikely to play for United again until the end of November at the earliest, missing as many as five Premier League matches. He will be sidelined for the Champions League home and away matches against Dynamo Kiev.
Carrick joins a number of prominent players on the sidelines including his England team mate Owen Hargreaves, who is out for at least a month with knee and tendinitis problems.
Other United players out injured include goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar (toe), Darren Fletcher (leg) and Park Ji-sung (knee).
England have doubts over Frank Lampard (thigh) and Michael Owen (groin) among others before this month's qualifiers.
