NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Harlem Globetrotters ended one of the longest road trips in basketball history on Tuesday, playing in the traditionally black New York neighborhood of Harlem for the first time in 20 years.
The comedy-and-hoops Globetrotters extended their perpetual winning streak over longtime foils the Washington Generals, 54-50, before nearly 500 students at the Harlem Armory Center.
It was only the third time the enduring comedy-and-hoops franchise has played in Harlem. The Globetrotters previously played in Harlem in 1987 and 1968.

The game, a dress rehearsal for the upcoming "Magic as Ever" tour, featured Globetrotters such as "Special K," "The Blenda" and "Sweet Pea" and marked the first meeting between the Globetrotters and Generals since 1995.
"I love it," said Tex Harrison, 74, a Globetrotter from 1954 to 1972. "The memories always come back."
The Globetrotters' ran through their usual tricks of sinking very long shots, funny dribbling and the always crowd-pleasing water-bucket routine -- in which a bucket of confetti is tossed onto the people in the stands.
Their all-time record of 22,534 wins and 345 losses is mostly against intentionally incompetent foils like the Generals and the New York Nationals, a spokesman said.
The 81-year-old team is trying to keep up with the times, launching a reality show next year searching for the next Globetrotter, said Kurt Schneider, chief executive of the team.
"We want someone who's a great basketball player, entertainer and citizen. ... We will look at potential Globetrotters from all over the world so long as they fit the criteria," he said.
The Globetrotters also held what they called their first "draft," selecting five players in June to compete for a role on the team. Among them was Sun Ming Ming, a 7-foot-9 (2.36-metre) player from China.
The 150-city tour runs from November to April. It opens November 15 with a four-game stand in Sacramento, California.
